EXT SRC / VOL. 1 / DEC 2023

EXT SRC is a former music blog and mix series, now radio show and zine curated by artist Theodore Taylor III. The show can be heard over the air on WRIR LP 97.3 FM Richmond or streamed on wrir.org, every 2nd and 4th Wednesday. An archive of the show can be found at mixcloud.com/tedikuma. This zine is meant as a guide to artists featured on the show. 

This is the first episode of EXT SRC’s radio show on WRIR LP 97.3 Richmond, inspired by one of my favorite sub-genres of electronic music, broken beat; a style birthed out of the UK jungle and drum and bass scenes blending jazz chords and off-kilter rhythms. As someone who grew up with jazz and an early appreciation for electronic music, broken beat has resonated with me for a long time so the choice to feature it in the first episode was obvious. I mainly focused on newer artists who are keeping the style alive, like Yoofee and Close Counters, while also including a few of the pioneers, like Kaidi Tatham and Domu.
